Is your child non-verbal? Does your child have difficulty communicating his needs and wants? Do you have questions about how to teach your child to communicate better?

Easter Seals, The Family Place in both our Dover and Raymond, New Hampshire locations, is pleased to present a parent training program entitled, “It Takes Two to Talk”, a registered and world-renowned program developed by the Hanen Center in Canada. This program is offered at very low cost to families as a result of a grant from the Parent Information Center.

Based on years of research, the Hanen program includes:

• A pre-program consultation: before the program begins, a Hanen-certified speech and language pathologist evaluates the child’s communication and video-tapes a parent and child interaction;
• A minimum of 17 hours of parent group training;
• Individual consultation with video feedback.

Who can Attend?
The Parents of children whose communication abilities range from non-verbal to those who are beginning to combine words. (This session is also well suited to parents of children who have been identified on the Autism Spectrum.)

Commitment:
Those who are interested must commit to the FULL course, which includes ten evening sessions. The program will alternate weeks at each of our Family Place locations in Dover and Raymond. At least ONE consistent parent is required, but both parents may attend the full course as well as any other individuals supporting your child’s language development.

Parents will also be videotaped with their child for 3-4 sessions. This will be done at the parents’ home at an appropriately scheduled mutually beneficial time. Individual feedback from these sessions is a cornerstone of the program.

Cost:
Parents are asked to assist with refreshments! It Takes Two to Talk is an exceptional program designed to help parents feel like experts in supporting their children’s language development. The traditional cost of this program to parents is over $500 however as a result of a federal PIRC grant provided to the Parent Information Center, it is provided without cost to parents.
