Easter Seals New Hampshire Continues Clean-Up After June 28th Flood $300,000 Emergency Fundraising Effort Underway
All of the carpets in the building must be replaced, and drywall, insulation and office furniture sustained water damage. Some of the computers used in providing services for needy clients have been lost, and many program services were interrupted. Gammon estimates it will cost over $500,000 to repair the building and replace the furnishings. “We are focussing on the services, and have done our best to minimize the lost time for our clients. I am very proud of our staff for their extraordinary flexibility, and for the creative ways they accommodated the serious needs of our Children and Seniors,” Mr. Gammons said. While the Senior Services area was up and running just a few days after the flood, the children attending the Child Development Center were temporarily moved to other parts of the building or other childcare facilities throughout the city. It was especially critical to keep the childcare services available. “Our Child Development Center serves many clients in the city who cannot afford daycare. We have children placed here that are currently in protective situations with the state, and we need to provide our services to keep these little ones safe,” Mr. Gammon explains. All of the children have now returned to their classrooms though staff are waiting for equipment and supplies that have been ordered before the area can truly return to its former state. Easter Seals has announced a $300,000 emergency fundraising campaign to defray the substantial recovery costs. There has been a tremendous outpouring of generosity from the community in response to the crisis, including a $10,000 donation from the Bishops Charitable Assistance Fund.
