The Farnum Center 235 Hanover Street Manchester, NH 03104 (603) 622-3020 x10 or 33
(Click here for information on our Adolescent Co-Occurring Program)
The Farnum Center is a comprehensive alcohol and substance abuse treatment facility serving more than 400 residents of the state of New Hampshire. |
Our Philosophy
|
Addiction is a brain disease characterized by the repetitive, compulsive use of a substance that occurs despite negative consequences to the user. Addiction is powerful because it immobilizes basic brain functions. At the Farnum Center, we employ a number of promising and evidence-based interventions to help residents interrupt the course of the disease and to turn their lives around. The program utilizes Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and twelve step modalities. |
 |
 |
The Farnum Center recognizes the prevalence of co-occurring substance use and mental health problems; the expertise of program staff reflects this reality. Psychiatric staff works collaboratively with Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors and mental health clinicians who are skilled in the treatment of co-occurring disorders. Within the residential program, staff works with clients to develop an individualized treatment plan to identify personal goals and to develop strategies to support recovery and to enhance quality of life. |
|
This is primarily a group modality program. Each resident is involved in various group activities daily in five major recovery areas: understanding the disease model of addiction, the impact of addiction on the family; relapse prevention, and values and spirituality. Related activities may include self-assessment, psycho-education sessions, group counseling, family education and relapse prevention planning. Each resident receives a thorough introduction to the use of 12 Step Programs as the primary support system for continuing recovery after discharge. Residents also receive weekly individual counseling. |
 |
Referrals
Clients come to treatment through different avenues including: self-referral, courts, state agencies, local hospitals, family intervention, substance abuse and mental health providers and other community social service. All referred individuals are assessed to determine the appropriate level of care.

We Need Your Support! Given the current economic recession, the State of New Hampshire has reduced the Farnum Center’s funding for 2009-10 by 9.7%. However, the demand for services is increasing as individuals lose their jobs, experience the foreclosure of their homes or struggle with divorce. The Farnum Center is seeking individual, foundation, corporate and government support to provide:
- Reduced services to uninsured and underinsured clients
- Financial support for the expansion of services to more clients
- Financial assistance for the upkeep of the Farnum Center’s aging facility
- Support for community outreach and marketing so that New Hampshire residents are aware of our services
